Position Title: Head Section of Geology
Department: Technical / Mine Planning / Geology
Location: Mouang Meun & Mouang Mad District, Vientiane Province
Reports To: Mine Manager / Technical Manager
Supervises: Senior Geologists, Mine Geologists, Exploration Geologists, Geological Technicians, GIS/Mapping Staff, Samplers
1. Position Purpose
The Head Section of Geology leads and manages all geological activities for the mining project, ensuring accurate resource modeling, grade control, exploration, and geotechnical interpretation to support safe, efficient, and profitable mining operations.
This role ensures that geological data is reliable, mineable resources are accurately estimated, and geotechnical/geological risks are minimized. The position also supports long-term mine planning and assists management in making informed operational and strategic decisions.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Geological Management & Data Control
Lead geological mapping, sampling, drilling, and core logging programs.
Ensure accurate interpretation of lithology, structures, mineralization, and orebody geometry.
Oversee the creation and maintenance of geological models, block models, and databases.
Validate geological data quality, sampling protocols, and QA/QC standards.
B. Resource Estimation & Mine Planning Support
<> Work closely with Mine Planning/Engineering to support resource evaluation.
<> Contribute to mineral resource estimation and reconciliation of ore production.
<> Provide geological inputs for monthly, quarterly, and annual mine plans.
<> Monitor orebody continuity and ensure mine designs align with geological conditions.
C. Grade Control & Production Support
<> Manage all grade control activities, including ore/waste boundary marking.
<> Ensure daily grade control results are accurate and timely for mining operations.
<> Supervise blast hole sampling, trenching, and RC drilling programs.
<> Provide geological guidance to the production team to optimize ore extraction.
D. Exploration & Project Expansion
<> Identify potential resource expansion zones within the license area.
<> Plan, supervise, and evaluate exploration drilling programs.
<> Conduct geophysical, geochemical, and remote-sensing studies as required.
<> Prepare exploration reports and support feasibility studies for new deposits.
E. Geotechnical & Geohazard Support
<> Work with geotechnical engineers to assess slope stability, fault zones, and structural risks.
<> Help evaluate ground conditions for pit design, underground development, and infrastructure.
<> Monitor geological hazards such as rockfalls, weak zones, water inflows, and faults.
F. Reporting, Documentation & Compliance
<> Prepare geological reports, resource reports, and production reconciliation reports.
<> Ensure all geological practices comply with mining law, environmental regulations, and company standards.
<> Maintain accurate documentation for audits, JORC/NI 43-101 compliance, and investors.
G. Leadership & Team Development
<> Lead, mentor, and develop the geological team.
<> Set work schedules, supervise field activities, and ensure high-quality outputs.
<> Coordinate with drilling contractors, laboratories, and external consultants.
<> Promote strong safety culture within the team.
H. Health, Safety & Environmental Management
<> Ensure geological field activities follow strict safety procedures.
<> Enforce proper handling and storage of geological samples.
<> Support environmental protection related to geology (waste rock handling, acid-forming materials).
<> Participate in emergency preparedness and hazard identification.
3. Qualifications & Experience
Technical Expertise
1) Geological modeling (Leapfrog, Surpac, Micromine, Datamine)
2) GIS mapping tools
3) Sampling and QA/QC standards
4) Drill core logging and mineral identification
5) Geostatistics & resource estimation
7) Structural geology analysis
8) Familiarity with JORC, NI 43-101, or international reporting standards.

1. Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Mining Geology, or Earth Sciences (required). 2. Master’s degree in Applied Geology, Mining Geology, or related field (preferred). 3. Minimum 7–12 years of geological experience in mining (open-pit or underground). 4. At least 3–5 years in supervisory or senior geological roles. 5. Strong background in resource estimation, grade control, and mine geology. 6. Experience with drilling program management and exploration processes.
